Meet Emily Millar, our newest team member. Emily is a Registered Nutritionist who recently graduated from the University of Nottingham with first class honours – she knows her stuff! She has a specialist interest in sports nutrition, weight loss, IBS, maternal and childhood nutrition.

We asked Emily 10 questions about herself, this is what she had to say…
Why did you get into nutrition and what do you love about it?
I started to become really interested in nutrition when I was at school. I began to seriously think about what I was eating and wanted to improve my health. Because of this, I chose to study Nutrition at University and from there my passion has grown. I am fascinated by how the nutrients we eat affect our body and love staying up to date with new and exciting research.
Best nutrition facts?
- Most mushrooms bought are grown in darkness, but if you leave them in the midday sun for around 30 minutes they are a great natural way of getting lots of vitamin D.
- Broccoli contains twice the vitamin C of an orange.
- Breast milk contains so many active immune factors which in the developing world, prevent diarrheal and respiratory infections, the two primary causes of child mortality.
- There are over 100 trillion bacteria in and on our bodies (around 2kg), most of which reside in the digestive system. They play a role in healthy digestion but also beneficially affect the immune system.
Best healthy eating hack?
Taking time to eat. Sometimes when you’re really hungry it’s all too easy to eat quickly and forget to enjoy your food. I always make sure I eat at a table with a glass of water and eat slowly, allowing my body to notice I am full.
Favourite fitness activity and/or sport?
I absolutely love getting outdoors. I feel the fresh air incredibly therapeutic. Exercise plays an important role in my life, my favourite being cycling. I also love playing tennis and hockey.
What’s your thing to do just for you?
I think it’s important to take time out just for yourself. When I feel things are getting a bit stressful, I love nothing more than going for a walk with my dog in the countryside. In the evenings I enjoy lighting a candle and reading a good thriller.
What’s your favourite film
Shrek, it really makes me laugh.
What’s your guilty pleasure or favourite treat?
I cannot get enough of nut butters! I love every flavour but make sure I always buy 100% nuts. Eating dark chocolate is another guilty pleasure, especially whilst reading my book!
Favourite place to be in the world
Bali. The food there was absolutely incredible, so fresh and full of healthy salads and smoothies. The beaches weren’t bad either!
What’s your favourite meal?
Thai green curry, I think it’s delicious!
